The songs of Private Prison sound simple, but underneath it rumbles and brews. Subtle tempo changes, unexpected chord progressions and the leading lyrics create a fascinating area of tension. Modern without shying away from 70s guitar parts, the band delivers interesting music, songs that only get better after several listens.
Thanks to drummer, percussionist and singer Charel Meulensteen, Private Prison’s live performances are super tight, with room for improvisation. One song sounds compelling, the next song fans out in all directions. Lennart van Kampen colors the music with his guitar, sometimes it leans towards cool rock, then blues and sometimes towards experimental indie. Base player and singer Frank Janssen is the center of the band with his dark lyrics and not always sunny view of the world. In short, indie rock for advanced listeners!
